Our food is increasingly deficient in minerals. Deficient soils resulting from over farming and use of pesticides that kill the micro-organisms which break down the soil to release these minerals. This was widely recognized at the United Nations Rio Earth Summit in 1992, where Dr Rana stated: “when people consume a diet derived from crops grown on nutrient deprived soil the intake of essential elements becomes inadequate which will lead to impairment of the relevant physiological functions and cause disease”.

To compound the problem, farmers only replace Nitrogen Phosphate and Potassium as artificial fertilizer. These chemicals give good yields with large fleshy crops but cannot replace the missing minerals.
